The Ralph Roddenbery Band is a dynamic blend of Americana, roots rock, and a twist of the blues. By combining four part harmonies with energizing riffs, captivating lyrics, remarkable stage presence and a driving rhythm section, RRB is able to connect with their audience in a way that makes them feel as if they are having a one on one conversation about life. The Ralph Roddenbery Band consists of Ralph Roddenbery (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Ted Norton (lead guitar/vocals), Richie Jones (drums/vocals), Tommy Jones (bass) and Samantha Alessi-Jones (vocals).
Ralph Roddenbery is a unique and impressionable singer/songwriter who has been part of the Athens and Atlanta music scene for many years. He honed his songwriting & performance skills under the tutelage of Bill Berry (R.E.M), John Keane, Randall Bramblett, Davis Causey and Dave Schools (Widespread Panic) while he was living in Athens.
RRB’s lead guitarist, Ted Norton, spent the nineties touring with The Grapes and has a sound that has been compared to the likes of David Gilmore and Jerry Garcia. Tommy Jones gives RRB its smooth bite with his 5 string modulos bass and Richie Jones uses a powerful and dynamic rhythmic approach to his drumming. The voice of Samantha Alessi-Jones is reminiscent of Emmy Lou Harris and Kate Wolf, yet she still has her own unique sound.

Holly Howell
Decatur-based singer/songwriter Holly Howell came into this world
singing and has always had a deep love for music. She has punk rock
roots, and played guitar in the renowned 80’s Macon punk band, Vex, as
a senior in high school. In college at UGA, she found the Grateful
Dead and the Indigo Girls, which had a profound effect oh her music
sensibilities. In the early 90’s she put down her guitar for a while
to have 2 kids, and picked it up again a few years later. Her current
musical manifestation was jump-started from a performance class taught
by the Caroline Aiken. Soon after, Holly started writing songs,
stepped into the flow, and before she knew it, she was recording a CD.
Her band Moon Goddess Cotillion released their CD “Release” in fall
of 2008. The CD features guest vocals from Kevn Kinney of Drivn’ and
Cryin’ and blues performer Donna Hopkins. It was produced by Flournoy
Holmes, recorded at Bakos Studios, and mastered by Rodney Mills. In
addition to leading Moon Goddess Cotillion, she also sings harmony
vocals with Old Custer, and The Ramblers. Sometimes you may even see
her jump on stage to sing with her dear friends Donna Hopkins and
Ralph Roddenbery.

Zach Deputy
Doors @8pm
Cover $10
There is nothing out there like Zach Deputy. Truly a one-man band, he is a powerhouse of performance, technical chops, and one hell of a charismatic presence. Put simply, Zach Deputy does what is called live looping: layering sounds through the magic of technology to create a full band effect. He isn’t the only performer out there doing this, but he has taken the technique to the next level. First and foremost, however, Zach Deputy is a songwriter, a shredding guitarist and a soulful singer with a 4+ octave vocal range. He can also drop freestyle rhymes with the best of them. The Zach Deputy sound is essentially roots rock, but in his case the roots are in soul, calypso and dancehall, underpinned by driving hip-hop, rock steady, Motown and Stax backbeats created with his layered vocal beatboxing. On top of the backbeat, Zach Deputy’s nylon strings pull multiple duties as bass, rhythm and lead guitar. Riding over that, a plethora of sounds-- keyboard, steel drums and an entire horn section-- come pumping and grinding out of the speakers when Zach takes the stage. He is a one man dance party, but he can also bring an audience to rapt attention with a heartfelt love ballad.
Hailing from the South Carolina coast, Zach Deputy’s family roots are in Puerto Rico and St. Croix. Cruzan rhythms and folk songs competed with blues and American roots music for space on the family stereo. Having toured the country in his late teens and early 20’s with a couple of bands that just didn’t inspire him, Zach Deputy followed his muse back to the Atlantic coast, where he began to craft his own approach to music as a solo artist. Zach embraced the creative freedom of performing alone, but soon realized it also had its limitations. Thus, he began to employ live looping as a means of filling out the sound. Zach Deputy is now a full band unto himself, made possible through simple technology, but delivered by a skill and mastery of technique, made pure through the injection of warm, charming soul.
From his base in Hilton Head, Zach Deputy has been performing 250-300 shows a year for the last four years, and has expanded his base into the Northeast and Midwest over the last 12 months. The pace of growth has been startling. Tourists and summer residents of the South Carolina and Georgia beachside resort communities got caught up in the fun took the music back home, creating fan bases in places where Zach Deputy had yet to travel, leading to remarkable first time attendance numbers in many new markets. Promoters and regional acts, blown away by the refreshing new sound, have also enthusiastically made it their mission to help Zach build his fanbase. Zach Deputy now basically lives and works from a small box truck, playing almost every night of the week. The tireless work ethic is paying off, as audiences all up-and-down the East Coast and as far West as the Mississippi are reacting with genuine joy and passion, spreading the word to friends and fellow music lovers. Zach Deputy is bound to hit your town soon. If he does, head on over—he will be glad to see you—but be sure to bring your dancing shoes… and prepare for the wow factor.

Mystery Trip
Doors: @ 8:30pm
Cover: $10 advance / $12 day of show
What would happen if you were to round up Nashville's best songwriters, best players and solo artists...Then, put them in a band together and had them play the most popular music of all time, the Beatles? You'd get Mystery Trip. All about the music - all the sounds, great singing, no cheesy costumes. Using modern technology and stubborn gear-headedness, these guys have gone to great lengths to recreate every element of those classic Beatle recordings.
Mystery Trip features Gordon Kennedy (Grammy winning songwriter for Clapton's "Change The World", producer of Peter Frampton's Grammy winning album, "Fingerprints"), Steve Allen (founder of the hugely successful Long Players), Saul Zonana (Touring artist, Crash Test Dummies, Adrian Belew, Ace Frehley), Rob Arthur (keyboardist for Peter Frampton, Five For Fighting, Joan Osborne) and John Salaway (Acoustic Revolution).
Besides being first call players, all of these guys share lead vocals. They cover the Beatles from the early days to the later “big production” era including songs like "Strawberry Fields", "Lady Madonna" and the song nobody ever attempts, "Paperback Writer". Close your eyes and you're listening to the Beatles albums - LIVE. This is the absolute must see Beatle show!

Doors: @ 7:30 pm

If there were a list of the most interestingly, notable, intriguing individuals on the planet, Obie Jessie would be the first on the list. His is a story that celebrates talent, resolve, longevity and knowledge; all enduring graciously throughout the more than 50 years that he has been writing, performing and producing.
He’s toured Europe, Japan and the United States. Using his experience in the industry, he shares knowledge through workshops and seminars on blues, jazz and rock and roll.
Looking at the new model of “career” with which current young artists define success, we realize that their concept of developing a career is thin in comparison to that of Young Jessie. Obie Jessie: who transformed himself from age 15, when the music business was a newer frontier, through 5 decades, commandeering the growth path his career would take.

Dappled Grays w/ Packway Handle Band
Doors @ 8pm
Cover $
Dappled Grays
The Dappled Grays started in 2000 as a project dedicated to playing original New Acoustic music. Their first album "in the Gait" was released to great reviews which included a feature article in Flatpicking guitar magazine for guitarist Casey Cook, airtime on MTV and being named the best Traditional Bluegrass band in Atlanta by Creative Loafing Magazine. Now the band is back with new personel, new material and a new sound. Original members Casey Cook and Michael Smith, along with new members Leah Calvert, Keith Morris and Greg Earnest, released their newest album "Doin’ my Job" on January 19th, 2007. This album represents a significant move to the next level for this band in terms of writing, material choice, execution and overall recording quality. For the material, the Grays wrote half of the songs and brought in 2 astounding songwriters from North Carolina. The Grays did three songs from Ashville singer-songwriter, Malcolm Holcombe (Only for You, Doin’ His Job and Gone by the Ol’ Sunrise) and one by Jonathan Byrd (Young Slaver). Also of note, Bill Wolf (who engineered all of Tony Rice’s classic albums as well as some by the Grateful Dead) mixed the album and his trademark sound is evident on the recording. In Addition, The Dappled Grays have had the opportunity to play selected dates with one of their musical heroes, the bluegrass legend Bobby Hicks. The last year has been very excitiing for the Grays-From having their album on the Roots Music Report Bluegrass chart for over 40 consecutive weeks, getting to play with one of their musical Heroes Bobby Hicks, playing some great festivals and being selected for an official IBMA showcase for 2008. Keep your eyes open for updates on when the Dappled Grays are playing near you and buy the album, from the bands website www.dappledgraysmusic.com. Below are videos from a recent show with Bobby Hicks playing the songs All About You, Roanoke and the Dappled Grays original song the Night Life.
Packway Handle Band
It all started in Athens, Georgia in 2001 during a most peculiar spell when 5 or 6 bluegrass bands circulated the town. The famous Athens, which had once spawned the B-52s, REM, Widespread Panic, and countless other indie, pop and punk acts, was now the home to a competing minority of bluegrass players. The Packway Handle Band emerged from this small scene, finding national acclaim first as finalists at the Telluride bluegrass competition in 2002 and 2003, then taking 2nd place in 2004. The band’s 2003 debut album, “Chaff Harvest” was produced using prize awards from a local Battle of the Bands. PHB was on a roll and has continued to win over fans and rack up awards.
In early 2006 the band went on the road full time, wowing audiences across the country with close 4-part harmonies and their dance around two tightly-spaced condenser mics. The Packway Handle Band has emerged at the national forefront of bands that use this “gather around the mic” style. PHB’s second full length record “(Sinner) You Better Get Ready” was recorded this way. Theirs is not a mission to preserve historical styles—it’s just how they do what they do the best. And what they do best is rooted in thought provoking songwriting, clever choice and arrangement of bluegrass traditionals, and totally unexpected (even totally inappropriate) covers, all delivered with a crackling energy. If you get an idea of what Packway Handle is early in a show, you’ll probably change your mind several times before they’re done. But it’s obvious their enthusiasm and sense of humor are honest, and that what they do appeals to broad audiences, even those who don’t normally listen to bluegrass. Yes, they play bluegrass instruments, and hey, they even play them mostly in the bluegrass way; but you won’t find a whole lot of lyrics about rambling or trains or wagon wheels, and you’re not going to say you’ve heard this band before, unless you actually have.

The 54's CD Release Party
Doors @ 8pm
Cover $7
The 54 is possibly the least likely export of Morehouse College which has produced the likes of Martin Luther King Jr., Spike Lee, and Samuel L. Jackson, or are they? When the three longest standing members (Mercury, Walter, and Enye) met each other on campus, the climate around the Atlanta University Center appeared unwelcoming with T-Pain and Soulja Boy ruling the airwaves and campus party scene. The only public outlet they found to experiment with their acoustic sound was at an on-campus Open-Mic spoken word/poetry night which was held every Thursday at Jazzman's Cafe. Their unique approach to contemporary sounds inspired enough curiosity in audiences to have moderate success writing, self-producing, and releasing a 10 song EP entitled "10 Ways to Slay a Giant" under the band name Emerje.
The Diane Durrett Band w/ Caroline Aiken
Doors @8pm
Cover $10
“She’s good. She’s damn good.” Sting’s summation of his duet with singer songwriter Diane Durrett speaks for anyone who’s ever heard her perform. Diane has opened for Faith Hill, Patty Loveless, Tina Turner, Delbert McClinton, and Derek Trucks, and lit up Atlanta in a “Stormy Monday” duet with Gregg Allman.
Durrett has long reflected the musical passions that inspired her when growing up in Atlanta, Georgia. From her energy-driven breakthrough debut “50,000 Volts of Soul” (1993) to her superbly executed “Rhythm of Life” (1998) to her most recent release, “CHILL,” Durrett has continued her musical expedition towards defining her soulful voice and creating colorful songs.
